Robert joined the choir at Ely Cathedral, becoming Head Chorister and then major music scholar at King’s Senior School. Following his ABRSM Diploma he moved to study music at the University of Surrey, winning the Robert Naylor award for Most Outstanding Recital.
In 2006 Robert worked in New Zealand as an alto lay clerk and as a soloist at Christchurch Cathedral. He performed in Wellington (in Handel Messiah) and in Christchurch (in Arvo Pärt Passio and Britten Rejoice in the Lamb) and in an acclaimed recital as Micah in Handel Samson in Auckland. He features on Memento, a CD by the lay clerks of Christchurch Cathedral.
Notable appearances include Bach Cantata for Solo Alto (Guildford Cathedral and Winchester Festival) and Carl Orff Carmina Burana; Bach Ascension Cantata, St Matthew Passion and Handel Messiah, all at Ely Cathedral. During 2010-11 his performances included recitals with the Polyphonica Recorder Trio, Dido and Aeneas with Phoenix Opera and the role of Orfeo in Gluck Orfeo ed Euridice, directed by Dante Valdez in Lima, Peru.
Robert works in London and Cambridge as a deputy lay clerk at St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London Chapel and Clare College Choir. He has sung with Winchester and Rochester Cathedral choirs for recordings including a Classic FM concert and Radio 3 broadcast, and directs two choirs in London – Cantate Jubilate and The HearthSide Singers.
Robert has featured as soloist with the Kantanti Ensemble in Lotti Requiem and Bach St John Passion, and will direct the Kantanti Choir in Songs of Light in October 2011.
